A $4 Million Apology To Student Abandoned In Cell For 4 Days Without Food, Water

San Diego, U.S. — A 25-year old college student reached a $4.1 million (N659,200,239) settlement with the U.S. federal government after he was abandoned in a windowless Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) cell for more than four days without food or water, according to his attorneys.

Chong said he drank his own urine to stay alive, hallucinated that agents were trying to poison him with gases through the vents, and tried to carve a farewell message to his mother in his arm.

It remained unclear how the situation occurred, and no one has been disciplined, said one of his attorneys.

"It sounded like it was an accident — a really, really bad, horrible accident," Chong said.

Chong was taken into custody during a drug raid and placed in the cell in April 2012 by a San Diego police officer authorized to perform DEA work on a task force.

The officer told Chong he would not be charged and said, 'Hang tight, we'll come get you in a minute.'

The door to the 5-by-10-foot cell did not reopen for 4½ days.

Justice Department spokeswoman confirmed the settlement was reached for $4.1 million but declined to answer other questions.

Since attorney fees are capped at 20 percent of damages and the settlement payment is tax-free, Chong will collect at least $3.2 million (N514,497,747).

Chong was a 23-year-old engineering student when he was at a friend's house where the DEA found 18,000 ecstasy pills, other drugs and weapons. His attorneys acknowledged Chong was there to consume marijuana.

Chong and eight other people were taken into custody but authorities decided against pursuing charges against him after questioning.

Chong said he began to hallucinate on the third day.

In the cell, he urinated on a metal bench so he could have something to drink. He also stacked a blanket, his pants and shoes on a bench and tried to reach an overhead fire sprinkler, futilely swatting at it with his cuffed hands to set it off.

Chong said he accepted the possibility of death. He bit into his eyeglasses to break them and used a shard of glass to try to carve "Sorry Mom" onto his arm so he could leave something for her. He only managed to finish an "S".

"I didn't just sit there quietly. I was kicking the door yelling," he was quoted as saying by the Associated Press news agency. "I even put some shoestrings, shoelaces through the crack of the door for visual signs. I didn't stay still, no, I was screaming."

Five or six people found him covered in his feces in the cell at the DEA's San Diego headquarters.

"All I wanted was my sanity," Chong said. "I wasn't making any sense."

Chong was hospitalized for five days for dehydration, kidney failure, cramps and a perforated esophagus. He lost 15 pounds.

The incident prompted the head of the DEA to issue a public apology last May, saying he was "deeply troubled" by the incident.

Mr Chong's lawyer said that as a result of the incident the DEA had introduced new policies for detention, including checking cells daily and installing cameras inside them.

Mr Chong, now an economics student at the University of California, says he plans to buy his parents a house.

Dillish then strategically sandwiched herself snugly between Elikem and Melvin, whileCleo also joined the threesome on the far end of the bed. There were lots of giggles and flirting as the gang tried to get used to that many bodies in one bed. Dillish seemed to be enjoying herself the most and suggested that everyone hug each other.

"Let's all hug each other because we're all good friends," the pretty Namibian playfully suggested. When Elikem asked what would happen if he accidentally rolled over Dillish at night, Dillish told him "I would have no problem at all. I would kiss you and Melvin because you are my sweeties," she said, smooching the air dramatically.

Everyone was having a good time until the gang realised Bimp would be sleeping in the other room with the Chase's resident lovebirds, Bengelo and Oneza. "Let's invite Bimp. He's probably lonely in the other room," Cleo said. Dillish then quickly jumped out of bed and found Bimp doing his laundry in the bathroom and extended the invitation. Bimp accepted and just like that, the single Chasemates don't have to contend with cold, lonely nights anymore. Are the Housemates playing with fire though? Could new connections spark up in the middle of the night while these frisky Chasemates attempt to keep each other warm?

Governor Oshiomhole Denies Signing Death Warrants For Convicts

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, has denied claims that he had signed death warrants of two convicted prisoners on death row in the State.

Amnesty International in a statement today claimed that some condemned prisoners including one that missed execution in June, are about to be executed and have been moved closer to the gallows.

The human rights group’s claim appeared to have been anchored on a false news story by the Nigeria, national TV network, the NTA that the governor had signed death warrants for some convicts.

The governor in a press statement issued and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Peter Okhiria, described the story as untrue.

“The attention of the Government of Edo State has been drawn to a news item on the scroll bar of the 7:00pm Prime News of Tuesday, 23rd July, 2013, of the Nigerian television Authority (NTA), Benin Network Centre to the effect that the state Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has signed the death warrants of two more prisoners on death row in the state.

“We wish to inform the general public that the Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole did not sign such death warrants and that the news item is false in its entirety.”

The press statement advised the general public to ignore the said news item as it a figment of the imagination of the authors intended to cause disaffection against the governor and government of Edo State.

While stating that the governor would not shy away from carrying his Constitutional duties when the need arises, the press statement urged media practitioners to always take steps to verify information from the Media Unit of the governor’s office when in doubt.

Nigerian Airlines To Refund Passengers Two Hours After Flight Delays

                    

The Director, Consumer Protection Directorate of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Adamu Abdullahi, has affirmed that the NCAA law on consumer rights which came into law in September 2012 mandates all airlines operating in the country to refund passengers their airfare after two hours of delaying their flight.

Mr Abdullahi stated this as a guest on Channels TV Sunrise daily when asked about the effective implementation of the law and according to him, the largest carrier in the country has recorded a drastic fall in the number of complaints lodged against it because they set up a very viable customer relations desk and managers are empowered to take decisions without considering the cost.

Such decision, as stipulated by law, is that passengers must be served refreshments after an hour of delaying their flight and they must be refunded if the flight is still delayed after two hours.

He warned that as the directorate is now fully empowered with the law, “it will not be business as usual” in the aviation sector as sanctions and penalties will be levied against airlines that default on customers satisfaction.

He estimated that about 50,000 complaints are received per annum.

Nigerian Mysteriously Dies At New York Airport

A Nigerian, identified as Gunseye Adekunle, collapsed and died last Saturday at the JFK International Airport in New York, United States.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted local media as saying that the man died after suffering a heart attack at Terminal 4 of the airport while preparing to board an Arik Air flight to Nigeria.

NAN reports on Thursday that two teams of rescue squad failed to reach him because their electronic identity cards could not open the secure doors at the newly renovated Delta terminal.

“A call went out for help but what happened next was a massive mix-up. You had all the assets needed to keep this guy alive, but they never really had the chance to help him.

“A Port Authority police emergency operator got the call at about 6:30 a.m. and was told Adekunle was `unresponsive’ but breathing. “One minute later, a PAPD ambulance known as Medical One was dispatched but the crew was unable to enter the terminal from the street two minutes afterward because an officer’s security card wasn’t working.

“The trouble delayed the Medical One team for two vital minutes, but then they were able to get into the building by another route and got to Adekunle,’’ NAN quoted a law enforcement source as saying to U.S media.

The report stated that the second rescue squad also ran into frustrating issues with security door

Jay-Z's new album has sold more than 500,000 units its first week.

Nielsen SoundScan said late Tuesday preliminary data shows that "Magna Carta Holy Grail" moved about 527,000 copies. It will debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart this week.

The album was officially released on July 7. Samsung bought and gave 1.2 million copies of the album to Galaxy mobile phone users on July 4. Billboard is not counting those sales on its charts.

“Magna Carta” has the second-best first-week debut of the year after Justin Timberlake's “20/20 Experience.” The album features Timberlake, Beyonce, Frank Ocean and Timbaland.

Jay-Z's 12th album had more than 14 million streams in its first week on Spotify, beating a record that Daft Punk set in May with “Random Access Memories.”

Chris Brown May Face up to Four Years in Jail

It appears that many fans are forgiving Chris Brown for his transgressions, but the Los Angeles District Attorney isn't ready to let them. The singer may face up to four years in jail.

The D.A. filed legal documents Monday (July 15) with the judge who ruled over Brown's 2009 conviction seeking to revoke the R&B star's probation. He claims that Brown broke the law "willfully and unlawfully" during a hit-and-run incident in May 2013.

Brown received a sentence of five years' probation after he assaulted musician and then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. The D.A. is pursuing him for a violation after he reportedly left the scene of a car accident in May without providing a California driver's license and insurance information to the other driver.

Meanwhile, Brown has insisted upon his innocence, or at least complicity, in the accident, since news first broke. On June 25, Brown tweeted "It's not a hit and run if u get out the car, exchange information (who has NO DAMAGE to either cars).This is really ridiculous." A few minutes later, he suggested that the other driver was being opportunistic: "She contacted the cops thinking of a payday from Chris Brown when I followed the proper procedures," he tweeted.

Earlier today, TMZ reported that even the other driver's lawyer will make a court appearance to support Brown, saying he did in fact provide the correct information. But if lawyers are unsuccessful in demonstrating that he followed the law, Brown may face as much as four years of prison time. Until a hearing on August 18, however, Brown will remain released on his own recognizance.

Monday on Twitter, Brown continued to insist upon his innocence, saying, "I did everything I was suppose to do during the so called hit n run, I provided the correct info. There were no injuries or damages. C'mon!!" He sent a shout-out to his fans, with a note of optimism that he will be exonerated. "Love you Team Breezy. I hope people can actually see the truth."

"Big Brother expects Housemates to start their Tasks as soon as they receive the Task Briefs. A warning Housemates. Any further lack of participation will result in a loss of Wager", Biggie said. As soon as the announcement was made Bassey, who was already in character, screamed 'I told you guys and you didn't want to listen". Popular TV personality, Moet Abebe recently interviewed D'banj and during the course of the interview D'banj asked her out on a date.

Immediately after I was briefed about the occurrence, I put a call out to the young man Skales who obviously knows nothing of this incidence.

An account was opened in his real name Raoul John Njeng Njeng with account number 3069973058 in a bid to defraud unknowing people who intend to work with Dammy Krane or Skales.

This is a wakeup call to everyone in the entertainment industry and the music factory specifically that it is absolutely wrong to pay cash into any artistes or manager’s account prior to a meeting with either or both of them.

The ideal thing is to reach out to the label, artiste manager or the artiste if possible and a meeting is set up to enable due process to get the respective artiste for whatever reason.

This announcement also serves as a disclaimer by Skales that he knows nothing about the fake Dammy Krane on BBM who opened an account in his name to defraud people of their hard earned cash and all activities as regards his music career should be sourced from the label Empire Mates Entertainment. The general public should please take note.

Money Don Complete: OJB Jezreel Asks People To Stop Donating

Veteran producer OJB Jezreel has been able to gather all the money needed for his kidney surgery, and has asked people not to donate to anyone who claimed they were soliciting funds for him.

“Appreciate all those who stood by me one way or the other. I’m sincerely grateful and feel blessed that people could go miles just to make me well again. Now that I have gotten all the money needed for my medical bill, I want to officially put a stop to all forms of appeal or request in bid to save OJB. I want Nigerians to know that I have gotten the N16million needed for my treatment. Therefore, no donation should again be made to any source in respect of the said case. I will be going for my operation by mid August”.

Chocolate City issues Press Release: On BrymO, Jesse Jagz and Audu Maikor

Here’s a press release from Chocolate City regarding BrymO, Jesse Jagz and Audu Maikori.

Our attention has been drawn to a slew of publications which have been carried by several blogs, websites and online newspapers, which alleged that our client Audu Maikori, CEO Chocolate City Group, issued a press release in which he made certain distasteful statements about Jesse Jagz and Brymo.

Our Client has informed us that neither the CEO of Chocolate City nor any of his staff have at anytime made any statements in respect of any of the artists as is being touted by many reputable and not so reputable publications.

It is indeed sad that the tenets of true journalism were disregarded as several media outlets in typical manner just reposted the false thread without bothering to verify the authenticity or otherwise of the publications.

Consequently we write to request that you take down all such publications, as they are not only untrue but a deliberate manipulation to taint the reputation and or character of our Clients. Please note that most contractual disputes involving our artist are currently subject of legal proceedings as provided in the individual Artist’s contract and Chocolate City in deference to the legal process has declined to make any statements on the pending matter until it is settled by the judicial system.

Don't Call Me For A Show If You Do Not Have N5 Million - Wizkid

Nigerian singer Ayo “Wizkid” Balogun was recently in a controversy concerning the fact that some UNILAG students accused him of fraud.

He clarifies the incident below:

What really happened between you and the UNILAG students. You were accused of duping them? 

By now, I think all is clear that there are some people parading themselves as either Wizkid or his managers. The unfortunate incident regarding the UNILAG students is a case of mistaken identity where people fell victim to some unscrupulous elements who impersonated me or my representatives. The same people, as we have come to know, went as far as creating fake accounts in my name to dupe people.

How did you find out about the issue?

Basically, the police just called us to inform us of the development. We can’t really give full details because we were invited to come to the police station and we went as law abiding citizens. When we got there, we gave our own statement as well as the students. But we really can’t say anything now until the police have done their proper investigations. But with the details on ground, what we want you to know is that the so-called Wizkid the students have been contacting is fake and an impostor. It’s really not from me or from anybody around me.

What was your first reaction when you heard the news?

I felt so bad. I just went to my Twitter account and tweeted the normal people to contact if you want to book a show with Wizkid. Let’s be realistic. Everybody saw my hustle and watched me grow. When I dropped “Holla Your Boy”, I was much younger and wasn’t charging up to N5 million for shows. This is just playing out and it is simple.

So, how much do you charge now?

N5 million is okay for my show. But let’s just put things right. It is so bad to my company’s name and my name as well. That is why I decided to open up on the issue.
